prompts...
If you're lacking ideas or don't know how to get started, look no further! Here is a page of writing prompts and challenges for your pleasure. If you complete a section of writing prompts there will be fabulous prizes and bragging rights! If you complete all the prompts then... wow. You'll force the mod to come up with some really super.

Unless otherwise noted, the following prompts can't double dip. One prompt per scene! Comment if you'd like to suggest a new batch of writing prompts! :D

I. Out of Character.
♦ Please Allow Me to Introduce Myself... Introduce yourself on the OOC board. You may link to or imbed a YouTube video which you feel best describes who you are. Yeah, this is basically a freebie.

♦ Hello, My Name Is... Introduce yourself to a player you've never met and post your log to the OOC message board. You must casually work in ice cream, The Beatles or Jane Austin into the conversation.

♦ Don't Be Shy... Initiate five different scenes with five different players.

♦ Popularity Contest... Initiate ten different scenes with ten different players (first five included).

♦ [Plot] Match Maker... Come up with three different plot/story ideas for characters that are not your own and pitch them on the OOC board.

♦ Run Amok...Initiate a one time group scene involving at least three players and five characters.

♦ Wanted Dead or Alive... Write up three different character concepts that may or may not be related to your character on the wanted page.

♦ Choose Your Own Adventure... Come up with own own list of writing prompts. There must be at least five prompts under any given category. You may make up an original category or a "sequel" to one of the posted categories. (Example: Out of Character, part 2 OR Remembering the Past, part 3.)

II. Remembering the Past.
♦ Childhood... Write about a character's childhood memory. It can be something they've only recently remembered or something they've never been able to forget.

♦ Five Years Have Passed... What was your character doing exactly five years ago to the day? Were they a different person? Did something memorable happen to mark the anniversary or is your character doomed to repeat their past mistakes?

♦ Character's First... Write about a character's significant first. It could be a first kiss, first funeral, etc.

♦ When an [NPC] comes to town... write about an NPC coming into town who your character has a history with. If the idea sticks, put the [NPC] up for adoption on the wanted page!

♦ Most Cherished Teenaged Memory... Exactly like it sounds. Those teenaged years are filled with dramatic hormonal memories. Write about one which was a particular high point for them.

♦ I Felt Alive When... Maybe your character was in danger or did something dangerous and incredibly stupid. Write about a time they did something to make them feel more alive than they ever had before.

III. Complications.
♦ I Just Can't Help Myself... Write about a character acting on one of their vices. If they get away with it, will it be something that comes back to haunt them later?

♦ The Heart Wants What the Heart Wants... Write or initiate a scene in which your character takes notice of someone. They don't have to act on the attraction but perhaps they wish they could? Perhaps they're already in a relationship with another character? Maybe they just don't care.

♦ Asylum... Your character needs help but they can't do it on your own. Write about your character going to another one in need. Maybe they can't make rent? Maybe they need help burying a body.

♦ Dream a Little Dream of Me... Your character has a supernatural dream they can't explain. They may either A) have a shared dream with another character or, B) bring something small back with them from the dream (the clothes they were wearing, a handkerchief, a book, etc).

♦ Jump the Shark... Your character does something unusual, unexpected. Other characters may be hurt or disappointed by their actions. Though it appears that they acted completely out of the ordinary, they had their reasons.

IV. He Said, She said.
♦ Blah, blah blah... Write a scene with at least one other character that is exclusively dialogue. You may not even use he said, she said tags. Nor may you set it up as an email or IM conversation. That would be cheating.

♦ It goes on and on and on... Write a scene which is essentially a monologue. It is a one shot of your character speaking, uninterrupted. It may be nested within a scene with another character, spoken to an NPC, to a mirror, etc.

♦ Brevity Challenge... Write a scene in which the start, replies and finish are only one sentence long. No cheesy run on sentences. The one line may be one line of dialogue or one single line of exposition.

♦ Dialogue Scavenger Hunt... Write a scene, either a narrative or with another player, in which the following lines are spoken; that's how you shut that down, this ain't my first rodeo, I drank it, last wednesday, there are bigger fish to fry, the pink one and the green one, rubber ducks, I just saw it laying there. The lines may be used in any order.

♦ Not Quite Post Secret... Write a letter or an email your character wants to or wishes they could say to someone else. Either they can delete the email before it's sent or dispose of the physical letter. Optional bonus: the letter is discovered by someone else either by going through your character's trash or you forgot to sign out of your email when another character used the same computer.
