Journals, along with our internet media communitythetubes, can be used for tons of different in-game communication. The possibility is really only limited by your imagination. Below is a list of ideas and resources that you may want to use. Keep in mind none of this is required and is meant only to enhance your enjoyment of the game. Sometimes a quick facespace update is all you have time for.
###
FacespaceGood ole social networking! We recommend that you post your actual Facespace page in your character's journal. Thanks tostorybookending there's a pretty sexy code already written up that you are free to use here! (Please do not remove the credit. That's just rude.)
For updating your Facespace status, we recommend that you do so onthetubes so that tags may be used to organize online communication. You may also want to edit your Facespace page to include links to your FaceSpace posts, status updates or whatever you like. Use the OOC board to help each other out with editing.
ChitterSince our Facebook knockoff has its ownless thanoriginal name, it seemed our Twitter knockoff should also be a little different. Once you've posted a message, other characters may reply with their own chitter messages by replying to that specific post. We recommend that you post chitter updates inthetubes so that tags can be used to organize communication. Example format:
urusername: @someone Remember to keep your message under 140 characters, not that anyone will really be counting. #hashtag.
Email, Instant Messages and Text MessagesEmails and Instant Messages may be posted on your character's journal or onthetubes. If you use
thetubes please feel free to use tags to organize all your electronic communication. When using email be sure to include the sender, recipient and subject line. Feel free to format IM conversations however your character's IM client works. Same with text messages!
VoicemailYour character has a cell phone, right? We recommend putting a sticky post on your character's journal with what their voicemail sounds like. That way other characters can leave them late night drunk dial messages. (D'aw. Feel the love!)
DropboxThe dropbox is the out of character version of the voicemail. Sometimes it's just easier to send a note to someone else on their journal than it is to send off an email or wait for them to sign onto AIM. You may want to screen all replies to your OOC dropbox should you decide to create one.
Good Ole Pen & PaperYes. Some characters keep a journal or a diary. Weird, huh? If your character uses a journal be sure to specify if they're using the ancient pen and paper technique or an online journal system.
