rules...
1. Be active-ish.
Real life will always trump gaming. This we know and acknowledge! It will happen to us too. That being said, we would like to see you post once every three weeks or so. This is more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule, but if you've lost interest in your characters, we'd rather see you come talk to us about it than put in token minimum activity for months. Also come talk to us if you need to go on hiatus for awhile. We're cool, honest. Play because it's fun, not because it's homework.

2. Ask permission.
If you're going to break another character's jaw, hack into their computer, or steal their NPC girlfriend, ask permission from that player first. Don't assume doing so is okay and don't assume you know what their next action will be.

3. Exclusivity sucks.
It's natural to play more with people you know and like than with a stranger. We get it. But actively excluding other people in the game in order to essentially play out your private PSL in plain sight is unacceptable and douchey. The mod squad will do everything they can to give players opportunities to mix it up, but if you don't play nice with others, take it somewhere else.

4. Maturity & keeping it classy.
This game isn't your platform for subjecting players to torture porn or hilariously bad fanfic-quality sex scenes. That being said, anything you might find in an R-rated movie or MA-rated TV show is fair game and might show up here. (Just use a cut tag and clearly label it, yeah? Some of us check these things from work.) We do have one exception, though: We are not okay with non-consensual sex or pedophilic sex. Period. If it's part of your character's backstory, that's fine. It can even be recent. But we don't want it being played out in the game.

5. Common sense.
Are we going to detail all the rules of role play? No. For the majority of you this isn't your first rodeo. It isn't ours, either. We're not going to insult your intelligence, so don't insult ours. Be respectful of each other. Don't cause drama. Don't mix in and out of character. These are common sense.

6. Logistics.
Only one werewolf and one kinfolk character per player. Players may have up to four characters total. There are no restrictions on journal names or PBs. Please post at the top of each posted scene who, where, when, rating, status and brief summary (see an example here). The mod reserves the right to change, alter and/or bend the rules in special circumstances.

faq...
Werewolves
Q: How much does my werewolf character know about their condition?
A: Your character would have to learn the hard way: from experience. If they've never bitten another human being how would they know that they're incapable of transmitting the curse? If they've watched a lot of werewolf movies they might avoid wearing silver jewelry. There are no Werewolf For Dummies! books in the library. Please justify your character's knowledge of their condition in their backstory.

Q: May I play a "former" werewolf that hasn't changed back into a human yet?
A: Yes. Keep in mind that this may be a very challenging character option to go with. Your character will have almost no real way to communicate with other characters (unless the character in question happens to be a telepath) and they look like a giant effing wolf. Choose this character type with caution.

Other Character Types
Q: If lycanthropy is a curse, how are descendants gifted with kinfolk abilities?
A: Once a person has been cursed as a werewolf their bloodline carries that curse. It doesn't even have to be their direct bloodline. Kinfolk can include (great great great...) grand nieces, cousins, their children, etc. It's a rare supernatural curse that doesn't follow any hard scientific rule.

Q: Wait, so if lycanthropy is a curse can I play a witch that curses people?
A: No.

Q: What about a vampire? Fairy? Demon? Angel? Jackalope?
A: No.

Q: Will you let us play *something* besides a werewolf, kinfolk or human?
A: No. Maybe in the future. Any special options will be opened up to existing players before becoming available to new players. It'll depend on the size of the game and the direction the plot takes. Really, we don't want this game to become season three of True Blood or a poorly run World of Darkness game where more special magic creatures exist than humans.

Drastic Plot Changes
Q: If I apply for a human character can they become a werewolf later in game?
A: Yes but-- you cannot currently have another werewolf character and you must get approval from the mod. There will be lots of discussion about this as there is a super secret plot reason people are becoming werewolves. Or maybe there isn't. But the mod is leaving open that possibility. Shh.

Q: Can I kill my character?
A: Yes but-- you must get approval from the mod and have serious justification for it. The mod will most likely recommend you simply drop the character and they leave town. Whether or not the PB you chose will be available to a new character will depend on how active that character was in game.

The Setting
Q: How realistic to I have to be about Butte since it's a real city?
A: Just don't contradict what's been written on the setting page and at least glance at the wikipedia entry. Butte is more like Fargo than Texas when it comes to weather. Mining is still a big deal. Unions are a big deal. Uptown is the historical district but the rest of the town looks pretty ordinary, if not a little sad. The mod even changed a few things from "reality." Examples include keeping The Mint as The Mint (it was converted to a boring sports bar a few years ago) and the Dumas Museum is still open for business (just not that kind of business. Essentially Uptown is more like it was five to ten years ago without the restoration and clean up of recent years.

Q: So when will we know when it's a full moon?
A: See the resources page for links letting you know the time and date of the full moon.
